I was once diagnosed with depressive episodes, chronic anxiety, PTSD, panic disorder, OCD and PMDD as well as severe postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety and postpartum rage (how on earth am I still alive? Keep reading 👀 I was told by my doctors that I would be on pharmaceuticals my whole life since my illnesses were also genetic. I was told to exercise and change my diet numerous times by the same doctors 😱 I even went to therapy for a few years and tried some different forms such as Breakthrough therapy, Cognitive behaviour therapy and Occupational therapy. It wasn’t until I hit rock bottom with severe postpartum depression after the birth of my second child that I knew it was time to either die or get better. It was then when I made the most radical decision of my life – to come off all pharmaceuticals and do the work. In April 2019 I spoke to my psychiatrist, social worker and OT and together we came up with the game plan to get me off my antidepressants once and for all. My plan included the use of plant medicine such as cannabis flower, CBD oil and psilocybin, as well as changing my diet, working out and the use of tons of therapeutic tools (everyone is different but for me this included journaling, tracking, baths, crystals, meditation and essential oils). Today, I have not only come off the zombifying drugs (Effexor, Seroquel and Trintellix) – I am successfully maintaining my mental health and my physical health with the treatment listed above. It is my personal opinion from experience and research that certain illnesses can in fact be treated if not cured with plant medicine with the use of other therapeutic tools. Cannabis was the stepping stone to me getting my life back. It’s not a cure all and it’s certainly not for everyone. Introspective and intentional use changed the game for me and if you’re willing to do the work I believe you can achieve the same goal.
